Lookin Good

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

Jeanette took me in this morning for the Endoscopy, The worst part of the whole thing was the IV they put in my hand. I don’t play well with needles (I think I might be batting .500 for not passing out when getting poked in the last 10 years).

Once I got in to the operating room the doctor and the two nurses talked to me for a little bit. They gave me some medicine so I would be conscious, but I wouldn’t remember anything that happened. Things started getting fuzzy, and then I woke up. I remember something moving in my throat, and then they were taking my IV out.

Drugs are weird.

Doctor said there was no ulcer, that there was just an irritation there. They did a biopsy of the area to see if it’s caused by H.Pylori or what, I should know by the end of the week, then we’ll be able to start treating it. He also said that I could eat whatever I want now, just stay away from really acidic foods.

Kyle’s gonna get himself some pizza :)

So, good news for me, I’m pretty happy that I don’t have an ulcer, and this whole thing seems on the down side. Wahoo!

Thanks God for taking care of me. You’ve never let me down. Ever.

Tuesday Morning

So Tuesday morning I go in for the test. Be praying for me. Should go fine and they’ll probably find exactly what they expect, but… Prayer is always good.

SharePoint

Friday, May 11th, 2007

So, I’ve volunteered myself to head up the SharePoint project here at GCC. It’s something that’s been shoved to the back while we deal with more pressing matters.

Our needs are a little different than most companies, as we need to find a way to allow our volunteers who don’t have an AD account to get access to information, files and schedules. AND we need to make the site volunteer-centric.

Phase One of the project, is setting SharePoint up for Drama (which I’m a part of) who have been using Basecamp successfully for a few years now. We decided to leave Basecamp mostly because we saw how great it is, and decided we wanted something like that for our whole church. I’m finding that the possibilities are endless with SharePoint, I just need to learn how to do all the things that I’m promising :-)

As we progress from just getting access for drama and music, we’re going to try to build in workflows. So if there’s going to be a drama 3 weeks from now, the producer and/or director can request mics and lighting enough ahead of time, that our techarts guys can plan for it. I have no idea how we’ll do that, but it’s definitely something to shoot for. We have some great guys on our team who are a lot smarter than me, so I think we’ll find a way.

Final stage of the process will be using it internally, which I think will be the greatest benefit. There are so many random systems that we’re using that can all be replaced/combined into SharePoint. Our Room Reservation system for instance and even our Time Cards that some of our employees use can all be done in SharePoint.

The biggest thing we want to do with this is not manage it. I want to set things up, train the people who will handle the day to day operation of it, and let them go. I don’t want to have to add users, or give rights to things as needs change. We’re going to need some big training and some smart staff members. Luckily we have the latter.

… or is it the former?

Umm… whichever one means we have smart staff members. Because we definitely have those.

Stomach Update

Ok, so Next Tuesday I’m going in for an Upper GI Endoscopy. They called and said yes, I do have an ulcer in my duodenum. The test is mostly to check to make sure that it is what they think it is. I’m not thrilled about having a tube stuck down my throat, but on the bright side, I’ll be out of it, so I won’t remember it, which is cool. I’m just glad I’ll finally start getting some medicine to get this fixed. I miss eating Pizza!!!

And we’re back

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

I survived the test! I found out it’s called an Upper GI Flouroscopy. They had me drink Barium (not as pleasant as one might think) and then they took pictures of my guts. It was really cool. They had like an X-ray video camera and when he found something of interest he took a still shot. Really cool. I didn’t get to see it because it was kinda turned away from me, but from what I caught, I was impressed.

I asked if he saw anything weird, and he said not really, but part of my duodenum looked a little odd. (Mental note - figure out what a duodenum is) He took some pictures of that… no biggy. So now I wait a couple days for my doctor’s office to get back with me about what’s going on and how they want to proceed from here.

Afterwards I went out for McDonald’s breakfast. My mom always took me for McDonalds or something fun if I was good at the doctor’s office. And I was good :)

BTW, No Super Powers. X-rays suck. I need me some Gamma Rays. Those are potent!
